I've recently read this article by Maria Panaritis, a
Philadelphia Inquirer Staff Writer called, and Philadelphia 4-year-old shoots
himself. This article is about how a four year old shot himself in the chest
with a gun he found under his mothers' pillow. The four year old did not die
but was in critical condition. As far as police can tell it was accidental and no
charges has been brought against the mother because she had a permit for the
firearm.
Reading this article has made me think why his mother isn’t
held accountable for her actions? Although she had the gun legally if she would
have placed the gun in a difficult place to find so that her son wouldn't have
got hurt. Although he is alive and recovering things could have been a lot
worst and at the end of the day this woman could have lost her son because of
her careless behavior.
When I read that was the only thing I could think of because
I've never heard of anything like this it’s just mind blowing that this woman
can just walk free. I believe that race had a lot to do with how they handled
this because of the color skin she had they made sure everyone understood it
was an accident but if her skin was a few shades darker she would have been
said to be neglectful.
