For Women Under 30, Most Births Occur Outside of Marriage

I have recently read the article by Joan Deparle and Sabrina Tavernise called, “For Women under 30, Most Births Occur Outside of Marriage”. The main idea of this article is to inform people about women under 30 and how 41% of them in 2009 have children before marriage and they become single parents.

But it wasn’t always like this. There was a time when people had to sustain from sex until marriage. And if they didn’t wait and the woman got pregnant you can bet they were getting married within a month. Nowadays people don’t think about repercussions/consequences they only think of how it feels in that moment. They don’t think not even once that the girl/woman will get pregnant. What’s worst there is 40% of the women who got pregnant in 2011 that ended with them raising their child on their own.

As I read this it got me thinking about my sister who has a daughter and is pregnant with twins now and the father of her children moved to New York and she’s a single parent. But she still does what she has to do to provide for herself and her children. Which makes me believe being a single parent can be difficult but not undoable.
