I'm a Criminal and So Are You

As I read this article "I'm a criminal and so are you" it had me thinking on if what the author stated was really true. Michelle Alexander is the author of this article "I'm A Criminal and So Are You". Ms.Alexander has been researching on what we label criminals today as of March, 2012. She starts the article saying she had began telling people recently that she’s a criminal and when someone asks what she has been convicted of she says nothing. So people ask "Well, then why do you say you're a criminal?" she responds "Because I am a criminal, I say, just like you.”

I think that how a person treats a criminal that has been convicted is ludicrous if their crime wasn’t serious like robbing a store or holding/selling of drugs.
Have you never heard the saying, “You do the crime, you do the time. If a criminal has done the time for their actions and has learned to not make the same mistake twice why shouldn’t they be treated like an ordinary person on the street?  Take for instance if a person has been in jail for petty theft and finally they’re released he goes and try to find a nice job at a hardware store or supermarket but does not get hired because of their criminal background. What do you expect them to do if you don’t give them a legitimate way of making a living they’ll have to do illegal things to get cash and other things they need to survive, think about it. Everyone deserves a second chance to demonstrate they are capable of change.
