Facebook Is Using You
The main idea of the article "Facebook is Using You" is basically informing you how Facebook sells your information to different advertising companies. And that the information you put on your profile can be harmful and it could be something as small as you email or phone number. It was said in this article that, "Facebook made $3.2 billion in advertising revenue last year, 85 percent of its total revenue" and that allows companies to track your profile and see what you like so they can try to advertise their product.
At first I thought it wasn't that bad because they're only ads, what bad can they really do? But it wasn't until someone in my house had a bad experience with advertisement, when I realized how serious it was. This article reminded me of the time my mom took a survey while on Facebook and it was nothing except yes or no questions she answered. A few minutes later she received a phone call from this company saying she signed up for something. And that was only because her phone number was linked to her account. Which proves that they had to go on her account and get her information?
Reading this article has made me think Facebook can be harmful and safe. It can be harmful depending on what you post or the information you add to your account. If you don't put too much personal information up you'll be safe. To me Facebook is as safe as you make it.
